Useful Tips
Speed limit - by Marc from UK
Will all Americans please realise that the metric system hasn't completely taken over the roads in the UK yet?! I think that it would probably be less ambiguous if we stuck to one standard or the other -- but as it stands as of 2006, speed limits and most distances are still given in Imperial units (i.e. MPH or just Miles). All cars that are made for the UK market, or imported into the country for permanent registration, must legally be fitted with a speedometer showing an MPH gauge -- and most have both MPH and KPH scales, for European driving flexibility. Sometimes very short distances are given in metres, such as 200m as opposed to ~200 yards, but this is only on very modern signs, and the impact of this is negligable. Also 'negligable' are the small differences between American and British Imperial units -- don't forget that an American mile is slightly different to a UK one.
Traffic - by Bobby Jordaan from Canada
Choas...that is the word that comes to mind..but coming from SA helped, thay drive on the left side of the road as we do and the speed limits are basically the same but it is definatly organised choas on the roads of London.

Other - by Jenny from Los Angeles
I live in the USA and can honestly say that driving in the UK takes a bit of getting used too. I had to adjust to driving on the left hand side of the rd and try and figure out the difference between mph & kph, however, once I had achieved that, it was smooth sailing. The roads are well maintained apart from a few very narrow little roads that are difficult to manoeuvre, once you get used to them though, driving is a pleasure.
